This tattoo was designed by an academic collaborator, Dr. Donna Rose Addis, and repurposed as body art with her permission. :) Tattoo is positioned on the inner right bicep.
The left half of the tattoo is a coronal slice of brain, showing the cortical surface of the brain. The “bulb” at the bottom of the slice is the left hippocampus (latin for “seahorse”); the hippocampus gets its name from the fact that it, along with the fornix, resembles a seahorse (hence the seahorse on the right). The hippocampus is involved in episodic memory, and my doctoral research focused on the neuroscience of memory for emotional experiences.
